Certifications, Accreditations, and Memberships

NCFMC is a member of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. Our statistics are reported annually to this society and are published on its website. All of our physicians are members of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the reproductive endocrinologists are members of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The embryology laboratory is a state of the art facility and is certified by the College of American Pathologists. Our operating room facility is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities.

The Reproductive Endocrinologist Physicians of NCFMC are members of SREI and SART.

What does this mean?

SREI (The Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility) and SART (Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology) are affiliate societies of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

Health care workers with an interest in treating patients with infertility may become members of ASRM.

However, membership in SREI requires specialty training in the areas of reproductive endocrinology and infertility. This requires four years of medical school after an undergraduate education, followed by a four year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The final course of training involves a two or three year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, which includes experience in ultrasonography, ovulation induction, IVF, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, surgery for treatment of fibroids, and microsurgery. An important aspect of the training also includes assessment and treatment of hormonal disorders, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), premature menopause, and recurrent miscarriage.

Once the fellowship has been completed, the specialist must pass board certification examinations in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in order to qualify for membership in SREI. Board certification must be maintained on an annual basis through required assessment procedures.

The physicians of NCFMC are board certified reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialists and are members of SREI.

SART is the primary organization of professionals dedicated to the practice of assisted reproductive technologies (ART- IVF)) in the United States. Major functions of SART include yearly data collection of IVF outcomes from its member clinics, as well as maintaining a close association with the Centers for Disease Control to accurately report these outcomes. SART represents 85% of the ART clinics in the U.S. In addition to reporting ART outcomes to the public on its website, SART sets practice guidelines and standards and interacts with the federal government by acting as an overseer of ART in this country. This helps to protect our patients. SART plays a major role in quality assurance, and as a SART member clinic, NCFMC not only follows the requirements of submitting yearly statistics to SART but also of maintaining accreditation of our laboratory by CAP/ASRM (the College of American Pathologists/American Society for Reproductive Medicine). This involves periodic inspections, to be sure that the highest standards are maintained.

The physicians of NCFMC feel it extremely important to maintain membership in both SREI and SART, to know that we are providing the highest standard of care to our patients.

Why does Northern California Fertility Medical Center partner with RESOLVE?

The physicians and staff at NCFMC believe that RESOLVE is making a difference in the lives of our fertility patients and we want to be supportive of their ongoing efforts. Our support includes:

Peer-led Support Groups

RESOLVE Peer-led Support Groups are informal opportunities for women and men experiencing infertility to connect with one another, to discuss their situations and to receive support from others who have had similar experiences or who are struggling with similar issues. Group moderators are volunteers and are not mental health professionals. Attendance is free. Please contact the group host before attending your first meeting.

CAP Laboratory Accreditation

Since 1993, Northern California Fertility Medical Center has been awarded accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based upon bi-annual, on-site inspections.

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960’s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for the laboratory’s patients.

NCFMC is one of about 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.

Accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center

NCFMC is a fully accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center.  Accreditation represents a high level of attention to details that make a surgery facility safe. We are accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF).  AAAASF accreditation is considered the “Gold Standard” for outpatient surgery facilities.  This means that NCFMC is routinely inspected yearly and has passed on hundreds of important criteria concerning patient safety.  Knowing that NCFMC has been accredited should help assure you that extra precautions have taken place to make our facility a safe environment for your medical care.  Your safety is our primary concern during your medical or surgical procedures.  Visit the AAAASF website for more information on AAAASF standards.
